Program Description

You are a caring and empathetic person who wants a career where you will provide many types of assistance to people and their families in the community. You want to work with persons with developmental disabilities and work toward making their lives enriching and exciting.

Graduates work in a wide range of social service settings, such as community agencies, seniors’ centres, hospitals, non-profit organizations, outreach homes, educational environments, recreational centres, and in respite care settings, among other places.

There has been a consistent need for developmental service workers to assist people of different ages in these diverse environments.

Enrolment Criteria: Proof of high school completion (OSSD, GED, or provincial equivalent), or successful completion of a Mature Student Test.

Special Aptitudes: Mature; caring and empathetic; excellent communication skills; desire to help others; eagerness to learn.

Program Outcomes: Graduates receive a post-secondary diploma in the Developmental Service Worker program.
