Program Description

The Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management Online program is designed to equip students to work and manage in the dynamic and global field of Logistics, Supply Chain and Operations Management. Students will gain real-world skills and competencies in applied technology and software, data analytics, communications, contracting and purchasing, order and vendor management, operations and quality management, customs and global trade compliance, and warehousing logistics. Students will also examine the use and application of new and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, block chain and crypto currency in supply management. In a capstone project at the end of the program students will research a real-world business issue related to supply chain management and develop a practical solution that addresses this challenge. Students will have the opportunity to prepare and sit for the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) certification and the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.

The Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management Online program is delivered using online delivery methods that ensure an optimal learning experience and provide convenience and flexibility for students. The program is designed using Quality Matters best practices for online learning. Ensuring that this program supports a practical and engaging learning environment for students.

Online Flexible Learning Activities – Independent (Asynchronous) online learning activities throughout the week designed to meet course objectives using video, readings, class discussion boards, case studies, individual learning exercises, group projects, quizzes, and exams.

Online Live Videoconference Sessions – A weekly interactive instructor-led class that can be accessed online from home. These engaging and required weekly ‘Online-Live’ sessions provide students the opportunity to actively engage with their instructor and other students through breakout groups, group projects, presentations, lectures, and interactive class discussions, and Q&As.

COURSES

SUCCESS STRATEGIES FOR SUPPLY CHAIN PROFESSIONALS
In this course, students will learn the foundations of how the mind works and “mind-setting” techniques associated with high performance and creating a growth mindset. Using a structured, scientifically proven process and principles, this course allows students to assess the habits, attitudes, beliefs and expectations that may be holding them back. While also helping students to develop new ones to better improve their personal well-being, educational achievement, and professional success. A component of this course focuses on financial management with the goal of using money management as a tool to build a solid financial future.

SUPPLY CHAIN FUNDAMENTALS
This course presents the learner with the fundamental topics related to the modern practice of supply chain management. This includes a variety of scopes; from local to global and from practical to strategic. Students will also be introduced to the profession, industry, and employment opportunities.

MICROSOFT OFFICE APPLICATIONS
This course provides the learner with foundational skills in Microsoft Office and information systems. Practical projects will include creating and formatting documents and presentations.

MICROSOFT EXCEL FOR SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
This course covers the use of spreadsheets in the context of supply chain and logistics operations. Topics covered in the course include creating, editing, and formatting worksheets and charts, integrating and analyzing data, and working with and creating reports.

PURCHASING FUNDAMENTALS
This course will focus on the essential elements of procurement and purchasing within an organization. This includes functional and practical alignment within the organization, as well as an understanding of how effective purchasing can play an important role in a business’s success.

OPERATIONS FUNDAMENTALS
This course presents the fundamental topics required to understand the practice of operations management. This includes a broad understanding of the role of operations management within a business, examples of operational, tactical, and strategic uses of operations management tools, and the development of efficient projects and processes.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND TRANSPORTATION
This course is the first of two modules that are part of a professional standards association program developed by the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA). It will provide students with a broad introduction to the basics and principles of international freight forwarding. In this combined theory and practical course, students will gain a deeper understanding of the role of the freight forwarder, how transportation geography influences global logistics, the four modes of transportation, and how terms of trade (Incoterms 2020) are written into contracts of sale between buyers and sellers.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: MANUFACTURING PLANNING AND CONTROL
This course expands on earlier learning related to operations management to delve deeper into aspects of manufacturing planning and control. Learners will work with a variety of case studies that focus on the efficient creation and operation of processes to maximize both productivity and quality.

SUPPLY MANAGEMENT
Students will learn about the critical factors in supply management for both production and consumption. Topics will include detailed analysis of how to identify, negotiate, and interact with a variety of types of suppliers. Students will also address the role of ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability as it relates to vendors and operations.

TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT
In this course students will learn successful theories and practices related to the transportation aspect of the logistics function. Specifically, students will address the importance of transportation on the overall supply chain equation, evaluate and select different transportation operations that align with organizational needs, and align transportation decisions with inventory requirements.

WAREHOUSE AND DISTRIBUTION OPERATIONS
In this course students will learn successful theories and practices related to the warehousing and distribution operation aspects of the logistics function. Specifically, students will address the use of crossdocking, warehouse management systems, and outsourcing.

GLOBAL LOGISTICS
This course builds on the knowledge acquired in the CIFFA International Transportation and Trade module. In this combined theory and practical course, students will be introduced to the risks and benefits of four common methods used to secure payments for goods sold, the importance of appropriate export packaging, the role of warehousing in international logistics, common forms of commercial documentation used in international logistics, the benefits and costs of cargo insurance, the importance of cargo security, and requirements for shipping and handling of dangerous goods. How to choose between alternative methods of transportation, and best practices used in costing and quoting for services will also be discussed.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: INVENTORY MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL
This course expands on earlier learning related to operations management to delve deeper into aspects of inventory management and control. Learners will work with a variety of case studies that focus on inventory analysis, process flows, inventory management, and inventory carrying costs.

GLOBAL SOURCING AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT
This course focuses on the global aspects of product and material sourcing as well as international supply management. Learners will focus on the global sourcing environment including variations in business practices, types of intermediaries, costs and payment systems, intellectual property, and risk management.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT
In this course learners will focus on tools and practices used to ensure quality at all stages of operation including processes and finished products. Students will focus on the use of proven systems to plan, monitor, and inspect all stages of organizational and manufacturing processes. This will include the use of statistics and introduction to the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.

CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION AND GLOBAL TRADE COMPLIANCE
In this course learners will be presented with the foundations of global trade compliance and the administration of customs law and policy. Topics in the class include relevant legislation and its implementation for a variety of imported goods. Additionally, standard practices in Customs compliance, documentation and enforcement will be addressed.

TECHNOLOGY, REVERSE LOGISTICS AND SUSTAINABILITY IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
This course focuses on the use of new and emerging technologies within the field of supply chain management. A variety of technologies and their practical applications will be examined, and will specifically include the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms and analytics, the role of block chain and crypto currency in supply management, reverse logistics implementation, and the implementation and tracking of sustainable operations using technical solutions.

CAPSTONE
In this course students will utilize all their learning throughout the program to successfully diagnose and quantify real-world problems related to supply chain and logistics
management. They will also select and present practical solutions that meet organizational requirements and objectives.
