    Pharmacy Technician Programs Description

    Pharmacy Technicians (also known as pharmacy techs’) work under the supervision of pharmacists. Pharmacy technicians can work in pharmacies, and hospitals. Pharmacy Techs are required to do a lot of detail-oriented work requiring accuracy and have good colour vision. Computer literacy and typing skills are useful as well. It is also important to be reliable and honest and to be able to work well as a part of a team.

    • Order, package and store drugs

    • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing patient info and pharmacist instructions.

    Pharmacy Technician Training Courses

    To become a pharmacy technician, you will first need a high school diploma, taking as many upper-level math and science courses. Preferably chemistry, biology and similar science courses will suffice. Once completing this, you must enroll in a pharmacy technician program or a similar program. These programs can take a few months to a year. Most of these programs offer on-the-job training and internships, this will give you more opportunities for the future in the long-run.

    Useful Information About Being a Pharmacy Technician

    Certification is not required for Canadian pharmacy technician positions. However, most employers prefer those who have enrolled in pharmacy technician school or who have earned their certification. In order to become certified, you must pass the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) certification exam.
