Hotel Manager Description
The primary responsibility of the hotel manager is to lead staffing teams, including guest experiences, food services, cleaning, maintenance, and security, to provide an excellent guest experience and achieve business growth goals. Hotel managers will need to set sales and profit targets and come up with strategies to meet these goals. This requires strategic business skills including marketing, budgeting, monitoring expenses, hiring and training staff, and analyzing sales figures. This position may require periods of walking and standing during busy hours. Hotel managers will also typically be required to wear a uniform or follow a dress code.
- A hotel manager must be an excellent leader and able to motivate all teams to do their best work, whether that be cleaning a room to excellent standards, or going above and beyond when serving guests.
- Strong ability to problem solve, work under pressure, and manage and diffuse conflict situations.
- Great interpersonal skills are needed for this position as there will be a significant amount of contact with staff members and often guests.
- Basic computer skills, time management, attention to detail, and good organizational skills are also important for this position.

An average salary is 27K per year in Canada. A more experienced front desk agent may make up to 73K.
Hotel Manager Hours
Full time positions are common for hotel managers, and shift work with other managers or assistant managers is common for late night and early morning business hours.
Hotel Manager Training
There are many programs offered across Canada that would be applicable for a hotel manager, such as a diploma or degree in hospitality management. Most courses can be taken online for convenience. Previous experience in a managerial role in the service industry would provide beneficial experience.
