    Educational Assistant Programs Description

    Educational Assistants (EA) work in a classroom setting, assisting teachers support all students academically, socially, culturally, and emotionally. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher, they help meet the learning needs and requirements of the students. EA’s can be assigned to work with one student or a group of students depending on the developmental and medical needs of the pupils. They are also called Teacher’s Assistants (TA).

    Educational Assistant Core Task and Skills Required

    EA’s are responsible for performing a variety of duties including classroom preparation, supervision of one or more children, monitoring behaviours, attendance, completing paperwork, assisting children directly with medical, developmental or social needs, and helping students with learning difficulties by providing extra instruction.

    • Preparing the classroom for lessons
    • Help teachers plan and prepare for learning activities
    • Reading to children, helping children learn to read
    • Supervise children
    • Supporting teachers in managing behaviours in the class
    • Tending to upset or injured children
    • Cleaning the classroom after lesson plans
    • Assisting with field trips, sports events, and other outings
    • Perform different administrative/office duties as required
    • Assessing and documenting students’ behaviours, learning
