Human Resources Assistant Programs Description
A human resources (HR) assistant is an administrative role supporting a human resources team or manager. The primary responsibility in this position is processing staffing documentation, such as workplace incidents, vacations, absences, termination, performance reports, and compensation. HR assistants may also work with benefits administration, recruiting, hiring, on-boarding employees, and updating company policies and employee handbooks. Maintaining knowledge of provincial and federal employment standards and legislation is important for this role as HR assistants will be expected to assist with ensuring compliance within the organization.
- Excellent employee relations and interpersonal skills are key for this position as an HR assistant will have regular contact with potential and current employees.
- Mediation and conflict diffusion are also valuable skills to have as HR staff are often needed as intermediaries in workplace disputes.
- HR assistants must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Basic computer skills, time management, punctuality, respectfulness, attention to detail, and good organizational skills are valuable for this position.
Human Resources Assistant Salary
An average salary is 39K per year in Canada. A more experienced human resources assistant may make up to 64K.
